Beauty is a tool of consumer culture used to make us look at instead of participate in society.

Only the marvelous is beautiful.

Beauty is unimportant. I stand against ordered and stagnant definitions of beauty.

Authenticity is beautiful.

Youth, speed, technology, and violence are beautiful.

Simplicity and amusement are my ideals, not beauty.

Organic forms and the marks of hand-craftsmanship are beautiful.

What do you think about artistic tradition?

The problem with the artistic tradition is that it serves the elite and functions as commodity.

Tradition is logical and rational, and therefore stifles creativity.

I reject traditional codes and standards of aesthetics and want to smash them completely.

We must use artistic practice to subvert traditions.

Originality is a lie, we should neither look forward or backward but engage with the current moment.

We can learn much from craft traditions. Craftspeople were more valued before industrialization.

Looking at past art only impedes innovation, which is the most important goal of art.

What do you think about society?

Our society has become completely obsessed with consumerism, which disengages us from active participation. We should use art to create situations that change the political fabric of our society.

Art and education should benefit the immediate community. The art world should be internationalist, not nationalist.

Reason and logic leads people into the horrors of war. The only route to salvation is to reject logic and embrace anarchy and irrationality.

Industrial advances and technology will make our nation stronger. Our nation should be aggressive; war is a useful tool.

Industrialization has caused massive problems for our society. We should turn away from dehumanizing production methods and return to a craft-based art culture.

By allowing the subconscious full expression, we can liberate society from rationality and the restrictive structures that accompany it.

I do not want to separate myself from ordinary people. I want to take art out of the hands of the bourgeoisie and make it apply to everyday life.

Where should art be seen?

Art should exist in unexpected circumstances.

Art should be experienced, not observed, in the same contexts as mass culture.

Art should be experienced in everyday life.

This is not a concern for me.

Everyone should have beautiful, handcrafted objects in their home.

The white wall gallery system is sterile and vacuous. Art should be experienced in homes, with access to chairs and cups of tea.

Art is everywhere.

What techniques and materials should the artist use?

The artist should invent new ways of expressing new concepts (new words, new materials, etc.).

The artist should use found & everyday objects, sounds, images, and texts to create new combinations of objects, sounds, images, and text.

The artist should use hand processes, like metalworking, printmaking, glass-blowing, and woodworking, that require skill.

The artist should use mass culture and turn it inside out to create new meanings which subvert the original.

I embrace new technologies and ways of making art, and shun outdated processes.

Artists should use automatic techniques to tap into the subconscious and subdue rational thought.

Artists who don't paint aren't artists. Paint creates results radically different from the material employed, whereas a found object block access to the inner world. Process is more important than cleverness.

What should art talk about?

Art should celebrate the modern life and exalt violence and speed.

Art should be simple, amusing, concerned with insignificances, and have no commodity or institutional value.

Art should subvert commodity culture and the spectacle.

Art should expose psychological truth by stripping ordinary objects of their normal significance, in order to create a compelling image that is beyond ordinary formal organization, in order to evoke empathy from the viewer.

Art should talk about nothing.

Art should express the craftsperson's unique style and reflect the beauty of the natural world.

Art should express the artist's inner neurosis and innocence. It should be authentic and intimate.

Art is an unexpected combination of images.

Art is a way for artists to explore their inner lives, and enriches society by giving shared form to individual experience and an individual form to shared experience.

Art arouses controversy.

I do not make art, I use art.

Anything can be art and anyone can do it.

Who is the artist?

An artist should be nonprofessional, nonelite, and nonparasitic to society.

Artists should be young. Only youth can innovate.

Artists should be amateurs (amare, Latin, to love) who take risks. Professional artists are afraid of failure.

The artist challenges mainstream, traditional society and culture.

The artist is an individual who can reach beyond reality and create new and compelling images.

At a higher stage, everyone will become an artist, i.e., inseparably a producer-consumer of total culture creation.

The artist is a skilled and valued craftsperson.
