A quick note, hopefully of reassurance: we <i>are not</i> adding popup (or popunder) ads to Rum and Monkey. Our advert network did approach us, and are putting the facility in place across their network, but to reiterate we are <i>not</i> enabling them for this site.

They may have been playing around though, which would explain it.

ya too many people got popups for it to be a coincidence. I tested it with a totally clean computer(no gain,gator,adware,whatever) and still got them although at random times.

I'm fairly certain I've put a link to this somewhere, but anyway... download Surf in Peace. It lets you block pop-ups, but you choose which ones to block, by name and/or size. For instance, you can block anything that comes up with the name "Tripod Member's Page" *shudder* and it's very easy to use. When you get something that's not blocked, open the SIP window, then click "add popup" or whatever... I'm not sure what the buttons are because I'm not on my computer... click "list browser windows", select the one you want killed, and choose to kill by name and/or window size. That pop up will be killed any time it tries to open on your computer. :D
