I was wondering: Do any of you here play Half-life mods? I only ask because there have been times when the names in the server sounded oddly Rumandmonkeyish.

If so, which mods do you usually play and what are your names?

I usually play as "Alain Swift", but lately my friends and I have been playing a lot of "The Specialist" mod. In there my name changes a lot, but it is always prefixed by "[FFTM]".

Let me know. I'd love to invite you to our server.

I think he's talking about the less well known stuff unlike TFC, CS, OF, and such.

Which mod is "OF"?

We play a lot of Day of Defeat, TFC and Half-life; and lately a whole helluva lot of The Specialist.

Do any of you guys play those? Any other recommendations?

Opposing Force?

I've played... A lot.

Played TFC religiously for half a year, until I got tired of the same shit over and over again. Got offered Adminship on a few servers, but turned it down due to being in a clan for a bit. Played CS for a while before that, until I got fed up with watching small children attempt to insult each other. Was an admin on Voogru's Natural Selection server, until I was tossed for actually daring to discipline the son of the guy who pays for the server the same way I disciplined everyone else. Played Firearms for a bit, because it's funny. Never really liked the classic-type Half-Life multiplayer, but played it occasionally. Ricochet is ugly, stupid, and pointless in my opinion. I'm sure I've forgotten some (Like the Vampire Slayer mod, which I just remembered. Cheesy graphics but amusing as hell).

And of course I forgot DoD. Played it for a while, until NS took over my attention, then I just shifted over to RTCW:ET. I mean, it's free and the client is a lot more friendly then Steam.

I'm looking forward to Half-Life 2 and to see where they take the mods (Especially TFC).

i used to play hl mods like a madman. dod, cs, tfc, etc... but don[I AM TOO STUPID TO USE AN APOSTROPHE]t you think they are a bit outdated?

there's a mod out for ut2k3 that is really fuckin cool called Red Orchestra. sort of what dod was supposed to be without the limitations of the hl engine. they have yet ti put machineguns into the game, but i would say it is somewhat of an America's Army in WW2.

btw, dod is the best mod ever made for hl. no other game the specialized classes that push team gameplay to new levels. i cannot wait for dod2 on hl2.

i hear from an associate that ?ve is not allowed on this forum without an apostrophe. well ?snt that a bit silly?

I used to play DoD a lot, then I lost net connect, and came back on but started playing NS, then DoD 1.0 came out... which I hate.

Played TFC and Science and Industry a bit.

And ofcourse CS, which I don't like that much due to the people who play it, but there are always servers with people and it gets played at lans a lot.

I played ET a lot too, till I got sick of getting spammed by explosives for 30 minutes.

You won't see me online because my copy is illegal. :shifty: We've got about eighty people playing over the LAN here at school, an extremely competitive group with clans and the like. Our main focus is Counterstrike, which is played almost every day. I'm clan leader of .::Radiance::. , ranked best clan, and personally I'm third in the school. So I'm pretty good. We practice on quite a few MODs for various different reasons.

We just discovered The Specialists. No one is really that great at it, but it's so damn fast-paced and it's a much more difficult mod that CS, so after playing that a little to warm up we kick so much ass it's not even funny. That and it's fun as hell - I love kung-fuing people up the ass.

Sven Coop, if anyone has ever played it, is one of the best mods I've seen yet, second only to The Specialists. We use it as team-building and communication practice - no one uses voicechat. Quite fun. Helps us adapt quickly to new and different situations.

I played Poke646 just for fun. Awesome mod. Kicks ass. Everyone should play it. Great custom weapons, monsters, and textures. Nice plot, too. Single player only though, unfortunately.

Deathmatch classic is plain old quake-style fun. Good stuff. 'Nuff said.

Yeah. We've also played the other more standard mods like TF, OF, Firearms a little, and HLDM. I'm not too keen on them, though. Like I said, we mainly play CS.

Whoa! at school?

Counter-Stike will never be outdated. I think there were results that more people play CS at any time than any other game. Also HL2 and Condition Zero are coming out (hopefully sometime soon).

*Envies Afkpuz ability to play at school*

Maybe I'm wrong, but I was assuming his school was a college?

Geez, I feel like a loser for not knowing what half of these games are. Can you guys use their full names instead of the abbreviations so that I know which mod you're talking about?

Boarding school. All the minuses, none of the pluses. :D We've got about 180 people here, so the CS community is a pretty big percentage. It's quite nice.

Full names? Poke646, The Specialists, Sven Coop version 2.2, Half-Life Deathmatch, Deathmatch Classic... yeah. Tell me if you need any more.

We just now realized you can draw the graphics in OpenGL here... Kind of sad for experienced players. I need to upgrade mine, though, and everything I've searched for leads me in circles. Anyone have a link?

Sorry. I have nothing for the OpenGL.

One mod I played was called Heart of Evil. If you've seen Apocalypse Now, it's great. Lots of satire. And Zombies.

The Opera is another good one. All Matrix-Style gunplay in Hong Kong.

Look them up in Google, they're great.

I fixed it. SO MUCH BETTER. Everyone should download DirectX 9. NOW.

I downloaded and played They Hunger for as far as I could - it's very buggy after years of being around. Other people say it's a really great mod, and it got to my nerves I've got to admit. But the bugs killed it for me.

I get incredibly cautious to the point of Camping when I get scared in a single-player or a mod I'm not familiar with. Common?

yeah I have Direct X 9 and Open GL going, and there is a huge difference as you're noiticing, especially just having Open GL running.

Just for eveyone's future reference I just play Counter-Strike and my name is (so original) Strength and Honor. So if you can find me on www.Gametiger.net come join and let my know you're from here or else I'll think you're insane.
