Poor John O?Grady
they took his whiskey away
they locked him in the cellar
the key went in the bay

He starved for twelthmonth and a day
a skeleton was he
they broke down the door
amazed they were
for still he cried, ?whiskey!?

Quickly, then, a barrel they burst
and that golden elixir poured forth
poor John O?Grady came out the worst
for with the barrel he?d been with from birth

T?was the barrel his grandaddy gave him
when wee Johnny was but three
?Now listen, grandson,
you must break this for none
or a visit I?ll pay to thee.?

So O?Grady shivered in his boots
and remembered his grandpappy dear
and wished he was among the roots
for the old man had been dead many a year

Those fateful words rang in Johnny?s head
and in hell old grandfather stirred
he rose from the grave
and began to rave
and scared away the birds

Johnny hid right ?neath his bed
right quiet, like a mouse
just as the thought of escape came to his head
old grandpappy entered the house

Stock still was poor scared Johnny now
a noise he did not make
but as grandfather creeped
he uttered one ?eep?
his position he did forsake

His grandpa, he turned as quick as a flash
his eyes were like glinty keys
he strode to the bed
and quoth, ?oh boy, by my head,
I?ve waited thirty years for that whiskey!?
